In My Peripheral Vision

I take photos of pretty things
There seems to be a some hate and drama surrounding the white poppy this year.
Trust me, the white poppy is not a protest against the red poppy, in just the same way that the red poppy isn’t a protest against the white poppy. Looking at the Peace Pledge Union it says ‘The white poppy was not intended as an insult to those who died in the First World War - a war in which many of the white poppy supporters lost husbands, brothers, sons and lovers - but a challenge to the continuing drive to war.’
The way I see it, the red and white poppies need to be worn alongside each other. The red poppy looks to the past, showing respect and grief for the soldiers who sacrificed their lives to create the better society that exists today. The white poppy looks to the future and the hope that the huge scale of sacrifice will not be repeated again.
The white poppy is even more relevant in today’s society where the chance of death and injury in the armed forces is even larger than it was in 1933 when it was first introduced.
Overall, spread the love y’all
